“Mothers who labored in water had less anxiety, better fetal positioning in the pelvis, less use of drugs to speed up labor, and were more satisfied with privacy and the ability to move around”

How it works

The hire period for our birth pools is from the 37th week of your pregnancy for six weeks – 3 weeks before estimated due date and three weeks after.

Hire of a pool is £135 no matter which size pool you choose. We also ask for a £120 security deposit that is returned to you once we have collected, inspected and cleaned the pool.

Delivery and collection of our birth pools are free to any address on the Isle of Wight.

When you book with us, we will spend time with you going through the set up and pack down of the pool, so you are confident about it all before baby decides it’s time to make an appearance.

Once baby has arrived we will arrange for the pool to be collected on a day which is convenient for you.

If you’re unsure about whether you can set up a birth pool in your home, we will come to you for a free, no obligation chat and to look at the space you have.

Hello, we are James and Alissia… partners in life as well as business!

We are parents to our beautiful girls Jemima and Phoebe and doggy parents to our crazy cocker spaniel Hetty. We have lived on the island for nearly 10 years, drawn here for our love of the water. James is a keen sailor and works as a commercial diver and I love being in, on and by the water however I can. My other work as a doula has me working with birthing people in birth pools regularly.

Alissia found birthing in the comfort of our own home, being submerged in water during labour, the most awesome experience.

We want to help more families achieve this too if it’s their desire!

FAQ

How long is the hire period?

Six weeks – three weeks before your estimated due date to three weeks after.

How much does hiring a pool cost?

Hiring a pool costs £135. We also ask for a £120 security deposit which is returned to you as soon as we have collected the pool and inspected and cleaned it. This is usually within 48 hours of getting the pool back.

How do I book a pool?

Contact us via the contact form or emailing hello@isleofwightbirthpools.co.uk giving us your estimated due date and the pool size you’d like, if you know at that time. We will check availability and then send you a booking confirmation form to complete via email. To reserve the pool for your dates we ask for a £50 reservation fee – this is taken off the balance of the full hire cost. Once we’ve received your form and reservation fee we will contact you to arrange a delivery day and time.

How and when do I make payment?

Payment is made directly to the Isle of Wight Birth Pools bank account. These details will be sent to you via email in the booking confirmation form and an invoice.

The first £50 of your £135 hire fee is due as soon as you confirm your booking and is the reservation fee for your dates (if more than 4 weeks before delivery).

The £85 remaining hire fee + £120 security deposit (£205) will be due four weeks before the pool is due to be delivered to you.

The £120 security deposit is returned within 48 hours of collecting the pool after hire (this may take longer to show up in your account depending on your bank).

When will the pool be delivered?

Once you have confirmed your hire of a pool, we will contact you to arrange a convenient day and time to deliver the pool to you and show you how to set it up. This will usually be around the day you’re three weeks before your estimated due date.

When will you collect the pool?

Once you have finished with the pool call or email us and we will come and collect it on a day and at a time convenient for you. We will endeavour to do this within 24 hours of you contacting us.

Will you give us instructions to set up the pool?

We will check over all equipment and the pool before we deliver it to you. We encourage you to pump up the pool within 3 days of it being delivered to check everything for yourselves. If something is faulty please contact us as soon as you can so that we can rectify the issue. We can get new items to you within 48 hours.

What happens if I have to cancel my hire?

We know that labour and birth can throw you a curve-ball and that your plans can change. If this were to occur, you need to have confidence that the services that you are relying upon for your ideal birth are also flexible and can respond positively to any changes that may occur. In pursuit of this, we have explained our hire cancellation policy as clearly as we are able –

  • Pool hire cancelled 2 weeks or more before delivery – full refund.
  • Pool hire cancelled more than 1 week before delivery – 50% refund
  • Pool hire cancelled the week delivery is to take place – 25% refund
  • Pool hire cancelled after delivery has been made – your hire has begun and no further refunds for your pool hire will be made.

We do not offer refunds or partial refunds for hire pools returned unused or returned prior to the end of the 6-week hire period. Our hire charges cover the whole 6-week hire to you and we assume that during this period, it is not available for others to hire.

Where should I set up the birth pool?

You will need to be close to a water supply so that filling the pool is as easy as possible. We do supply a 10 meter hose pipe to help. The pool will be heavy when it’s filled so you also want to ensure the flooring below will be able to support it. If you are unsure about the location we are more than happy to come and have a look at your home and facilities to help you decide.

I've decided to have a home birth at the last minute can I still hire a pool?

If we have a pool available for hire then yes we can. Simply get in touch with us to check our availability.
